Time for a car

Mortgage or not, I think it’s time to get a car. I decided to take our new GPS with me to work this morning and track the time from our apartment to the office. Walking, waiting, and riding the buses are involved in this journey. Here is the statistics for today:

  • Maximum speed: 41.3 mph.
  • Moving average: 12.9 mph.
  • Moving time: 27 mins, 53 secs.
  • Stopped time: 19 mins, 37 secs.
  • Total distance traveled: 6.01 mi.
  • Straight-line distance: 2.79 mi.

48 minutes to go 6 miles? Now I don’t feel so bad traveling for an hour to go 19 miles!!! Thanks Heath! Traffic really stinks around here now. It was a lot better 5 or even 10 years ago. But I don’t think Tim Eyman has the answers for us. The answers are in better mass transit, don’t you think?

Actually, that time *is* using mass transit. With all the stops and the connection it takes longer. I’m all for mass transit when you have to go through traffic like on the 520 bridge to/from Seattle proper, but for basically just down 148th Ave NE a few miles it’s absurd. My wife and I are just trying to get other bills paid off quickly so that’s primarily the reason.
