No Software is Bug-free

I saw an article over at BetaPlace today and have to say that Andy Martin has no idea what he’s talking about. First, Windows Vista will be the most stable and secure operating system. Having used it and know even just part of what’s going in it I can attest to that. Even still, it will have bugs just like any other software, including free and open source software (F/OSS). The linux kernel gets patched often, as do the UNIX variant kernels and other components (software applications, drivers, etc.) that sit on top of the kernel. Patches are necessary to fix the flaws that are, unfortunately, inevitable.
A lot of new technology – much of it from Microsoft Research – goes into making the code – and, hence, the products – more stable. Don’t be fooled into thinking that any software can possibly be bug-free, but great efforts are being made to better stablize and secure Microsoft products.
